Congress has failed to renew tax deductions for tuition expenses and for teacher's classroom expenses. These tax breaks expired at the end of 2005.
These deductions have been a critical support for the children of working and middle class families. The fact they have not been renewed shows how little their education matters to the rich and powerful in Washington.
Meanwhile, laws that cut income taxes and reduce capital gains and dividend taxes for the richest Americans remain in effect. Those breaks will save the wealthy $57 billion this year alone.
