Typical Herb

This pretty much squares with my experience with Sen. Herb Kohl of Wisconsin.

VoteRae.org:

Sit-ins, demonstrations and vigils have targeted all of Senator Kohl's offices in Wisconsin this week. Protesters are demanding that Kohl sign on to the Declaration of Peace. This declaration puts forward a three-point program:

  • Set a prompt timetable for the complete withdrawal of the U.S. military and the closing of bases in Iraq.
  • Provide a peace process for security, reconstruction, and reconciliation.
  • Shift the funding for the war to the meeting of human needs in the United States.

Kohl refused in a short statement yesterday: "As I've said on many occassions, President Bush misused and abused Congressional authority leading up to the Iraq war, and has made mistakes at virtually every turn. I remain concerned that the Administration's commitment in Iraq is too broad, and that they still lack a firm timetable for the orderly and honorable withdrawal of our troops. I supported the Levin-Reed resolution which makes clear to the Iraqi government and its people that we are not going to be there indefinitely and that they need to take charge of their country. It encourages the administration to begin the plan for redeployment so that we do not have an open-ended commitment, and it allows flexibility about when and how many troops are redeployed."

How typical! At every step in the escalation of the Iraq war, Kohl has wrung his hands and expressed his reservations about the war, and then gone along with the Republican administration in supporting it.

Herb basically tries to play both sides of every issue. He constantly avoids any conflict and tries to play it safe.

We don't need 'safe', we need aggressive.
