Rumsfeld's Final PR Stunt

Outgoing Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has returned from his farewell tour of Iraq. If there's any doubt as to whether it was a final attempt at image control, consider this -- the only member of the media to accompany Rummie was FOX News commentator and right wing talk radio bullshit artist Sean Hannity.

Associated Press:

The only member of the media allowed to accompany Rumsfeld was Sean Hannity, a conservative Fox News Channel host. On all of his 14 previous trips to Iraq, as well as all other overseas trips, Rumsfeld has taken reporters who cover him regularly at the Pentagon. Ruff offered no reason why reporters were not invited this time, except to say that Rumsfeld viewed it as a "private" visit.

So private that Rummie gave Hannity an exclusive interview to be broadcast on a top-rated cable news network. Weird definition of 'privacy.'

It's a habit they have. Need someone to lob softballs at you before an election? Call FOX's Bill O'Reilly. Need someone to lob softballs at you after you shot some guy in the face? Call FOX's Brit Hume. Need someone to lob softballs at you because you've completely screwed up a war and are responsible for needless deaths, human rights abuses, and war crimes?

Call FOX's Sean Hannity.
