TV.com:
Injured ABC newsman Bob Woodruff will return to the network in February with a special one-hour documentary about his accident and his road to recovery. To Iraq and Back: Bob Woodruff Reports will air on ABC at 10 p.m. Tuesday, February 27.
Woodruff was reporting in Iraq in January of 2006 when an improvised explosive device blew up near him and his cameraman, Daniel Vogt, injuring them both. Woodruff caught a load of shrapnel in his head, neck, and torso, and was airlifted to a US military hospital to receive emergency treatment.
It's been nearly a year since Woodruff was injured by an IED -- ABC reported his accident Jan. 29, 2006.
ABC News:
[Woodruff, cameraman Doug Vogt] and an Iraqi soldier were seriously injured when their convoy was attacked near Taji, Iraq, about 12 miles north of Baghdad. Woodruff and Vogt suffered shrapnel wounds and underwent surgery at the U.S. military hospital in Balad.
Both suffered head injuries and Woodruff also suffered wounds to his upper body. They were flown to the U.S. military hospital in Landstuhl, Germany, and doctors there will assess their condition and monitor their recovery in the coming days.
The documentary should be interesting, since the signature injury of the Iraq war is head trauma. Anything Woodruff went through will reflect the recovery of far too many wounded military personnel.
