The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 1/31/07

President Bush's Inspiration?

-He obviously didn't have a concealed weapon-
"A high school lunch period was disrupted Monday by a greased, naked student who ran around screaming and flailing his arms until police twice used a stun gun on him, authorities said." Taylor Killan was charged with inducing panic, public indecency, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. (CNN via Boing Boing)

George W. Bush is nuts-
"Bush said as he climbed into the cab of a massive D-10 tractor during his visit to a Caterpillar factory today. 'I’m about to crank this sucker up.' Newsweek notes, 'As the engine roared to life, White House staffers tried to steer the press corps to safety, but when the tractor lurched forward, they too were forced to scramble for safety. "Get out of the way!" a news photographer yelled. "I think he might run us over!" said another. … Even the Secret Service got involved, as one agent began yelling at reporters to get clear of the tractor. Watching the chaos below, Bush looked out the tractor’s window and laughed, steering the massive machine into the spot where most of the press corps had been positioned.'" Bush later described his attempt at vehicular homicide as a "cool experience." (Newsweek via Think Progress)

-Sweden's Second Life-
Sweden to open an embassy in the popular online virtual community Second Life. "The embassy, a copy of Sweden’s embassy House of Sweden, in Washington D.C., will provide visitors with information about Sweden and act as a link between the real and the virtual world. The official portal of Sweden, www.sweden.se, will also be reached through the virtual embassy." Will there be such a thing as 'virtual asylum?' (Swedish Institute)

-The correct answer would be, "How the hell should I know?"-
MSNBC's Chris Matthews' 'Hardball' questions of contestants as he sat in as a judge for the Miss America pageant in Las Vegas:

-"Why did Mississippi seem to do a better job than [Louisiana in the wake of Hurricane Katrina]?"
-"If you had a long plane ride, who would you rather sit next to, Bill Clinton or George W. Bush?"
-"Why can’t [Oprah] find a guy?"
-"[Novelist William] Faulkner never used commas when he wrote. Why is that?"

"And even though it didn’t air on TV, Miss D.C., Kate Michael, said Matthews dominated her interview, asking her several political questions. 'He asked me where Osama bin Laden is now,' she said." (Examiner.com)
