International Summer Tour Ahead for Obama

clipped from blogs.abcnews.com

ABC News has learned that later this summer, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., will travel to Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel, Jordan, the United Kingdom, France and Germany.

The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee visited Iraq once before, in 2006.

"In Iraq, my goal is to talk to the Iraqi leadership about making political progress so that we can start phasing down our troops in Iraq," Obama said. "Obviously, I want to congratulate the troops for the extraordinary work they've done in reducing violence there.”

As far as Afghanistan is concerned, Obama said that in some ways things "have been getting a little bit worse."

"There are certain issues like climate change that can't be addressed without the participation of the Europeans, as well," he said.
From a campaigning standpoint, it's a really good idea to include European stops. He's crazy popular there and the huge crowds won't fail to remind many of Clinton's last tour of the continent -- i.e., he'll look pretty damned presidential.
