Clinton to Head State Dept.?

clipped from dyn.politico.com President-elect Barack Obama met Thursday with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) at his transition headquarters in Chicago as a growing chorus of advisers pushes her for secretary of state.  This would give him a “Team of Rivals” Cabinet that would allow him to focus on the domestic economy while Clinton traveled the world to shore up America’s image with allies. Clinton said during her primary campaign against Obama that she was running, in part, to “restore America's standing in the world,” and she may get her chance to try. Several key Obama transition advisers argue that she would be “force multiplier” for the administration on the global stage. The president-elect already has shown signs of valuing proven competence over longtime loyalty, diversity or interest-group wish lists.

Politico describes this as a "secret meeting," but it's got to be one of the worst-kept secrets ever. The tone of the piece is rumor, but the fact that there's a specific cabinet post being talked about suggests there's probably something more.

Previous reports had Sec. of State as a contest between John Kerry and Bill Richardson. I liked Richardson for the post, but I would've been happy with either. To tell the truth, at this point in time, I've got nothing against HRC taking it either.
