Obama: Science Not to be Skewed by Ideology

clipped from www.politico.com
Seeking to draw a distinction with President George W. Bush, Barack Obama named his top science and technology advisers Saturday and pledged to “once again put science at the top of our agenda.”
President-elect Barack Obama at a news conference

The president-elect campaigned on a promise of treating science differently than Bush, whose administration was criticized by scientists as ignoring research and distorting facts suit its own ends.

“Today, more than ever before, science holds the key to our survival as a planet and our security and prosperity as a nation,” Obama said in his radio address. “It’s time we once again put science at the top of our agenda and worked to restore America’s place as the world leader in science and technology.”

Taking a veiled jab at Bush, Obama said the scientific process is about evidence and facts that “are never twisted or obscured by politics or ideology.”
This will be a nice change from the Bush administration, whose interference in -- and spinning of -- science is well documented. Putting a muzzle on scientists is putting a muzzle on truth.

The Bush admin. haven't been the biggest fans of truth.

Wisco, either you're cooling sharply towards Obama, or I think your spin-doctor instincts have let you down. "Seeking to draw a distinction with W"?

Considering he's campaigned from the very beginning on a platform of being The Anti-Bush -- why does he even need to do that?

That's Politico's wording, not mine.
