Obama to Nominate Nobel Winner for Energy Secretary

clipped from rawstory.com

The Associated Press is reporting that President-elect Barack Obama is set to nominate key members of his administration's energy and environmental teams, including Nobel Prize in Physics winner Steven Chu:

Democratic officials say President-elect Barack Obama intends to nominate Steven Chu for energy secretary, Lisa Jackson for environmental protection agency administrator and Carol Browner as his energy 'czar.'

A Chinese-American, Chu is a professor of physics and molecular and cell biology at the University of California-Berkeley and has been the director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory since 2004, where he has pushed aggressively for research into alternative energy as a way to combat global warming.

To give you an idea of how drastic a change this would be, Bush's Energy Sec. is Samuel Bodman, a veteran of both the investment banking and chemical industries -- i.e., someone who's never even worked in the energy sector before.

Chu's nomination will be what's known as "getting it right."
