Republic of Texas Demands Foreign Aid

Remember how Gov. Rick Perry said that Texas might have to secede from the union if President Obama didn't suddenly go all Republican? Turns out that Gov. Perry has found a use for federal interference in Texican affairs.

San Marcos Record, via Think Progress:

GOv. 'Goodhair' PerryGov. Rick Perry today in a precautionary measure requested the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provide 37,430 courses of antiviral medications from the Strategic National Stockpile to Texas to prevent the spread of swine flu. Currently, three cases of swine flu have been confirmed in Texas.

"As a precautionary measure, I have requested that medication be on hand in Texas to help curb the spread of swine flu by helping those with both confirmed and suspected cases of this swine flu virus, as well as healthcare providers who may have come in contact with these patients," said Gov. Rick Perry. "We will continue to work with our local, state and federal health officials to ensure public safety is protected."

Here's a question, if Texas seceded, how much more foreign aid would Perry demand from the US every time there was an outbreak of disease or a hurricane or whatever? Hating the federal government's just great when you're standing in front of a bunch of anti-American nutjobs, but when the chips are down, Perry runs to Washington to save his "Republic."

TP also notes that polling shows "51% of Lone Star Republicans agree with Gov. Rick Perry’s recent suggestion that Texas may need to leave the United States..." How many of the GOPers do you think are going to get all bent out of shape over this federal spending?

In the end, the teabaggers suffer from the exact opposite of NIMBYism -- the battlecry isn't "not in my backyard," but "only in my backyard." For them, all federal spending is wasteful spending unless it's spent on them.
