Obviously qualified for political office
-Headline of the day-
"¿Quién es la política más linda del mundo?"
Que?
Allow me to translate; "Who is the most beautiful female politician in the world?"
While it's never occurred to me to ask this question, it seem that guys in Spain do. The Spanish site 20Minutos.es allows readers to rate politicians on a scale of 1-5, rather than the American 1-10. I guess it's metric babe-rating or something.
High-profile Americans Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton make the list, but you've got to believe the publishers are just being polite when you look at some of the other possibilities. While it's probably a bad thing to reduce global politics to a beauty contest, some of these women are positively stunning. For example:
Russia's Alina Kabaeva
Israel's Orly Levy
And, of course:
As for Clinton and Palin, we love them for their minds.
Well, Clinton anyway... (20Minutos.es, via reddit)
-Talk English bill does good in lawmaking place-
A "plain English" bill is making its way through the Senate. According to the report, Daniel Akaka's (D-Hawaii) bill "intended to banish bureaucratic language from government letters, forms, brochures and other public documents was cleared Wednesday by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee."
So far, so good. But "plain language" by whose standards? I mean, we just got done with a President who referred to international terrorists as "bad guys," said he understood how hard it was for people to put food on their families, and said that economic policies should be aimed at making "the pie higher." Bush wasn't talkin' none o'that there bureaucratic gobbledy-gook and he was damned hard to understand.
That's why I'm urging Hawaiians to write Akaka and demand that the ban on bureaucratic language be expanded to include moronic language as well. Half the time, I had no idea what the hell Bush was talking about.
No fancy-talk and no stupid-talk, that's what I say. (CongressDaily)

"Coulter Falls For Fake Obama NASCAR Story That Limbaugh Said No One Would Believe."
On April Fools Day, Ann Coulter fell for a prank story in Car & Driver titled "President Obama had ordered Chevrolet and Dodge out of NASCAR after the 2009 season." She more than fell for it, she incorporated it into a typically shrill and stupid column about what a commie Barack Obama is.
But that's not the big news. The big news is that Rush Limbaugh's decades-long streak of being wrong about everything continues uninterrupted. There was, in fact, someone out there dumb enough to fall for it. (Think Progress)

Didja notice a distinct bias towards Spanish and Spanish-speaking politicas there? I mean, there's a couple from "Países Bajos", which has got to be like including state senators or mayors or something.
I did notice a certain racial preference. If I remember right, there was only one black woman and a handful of Asians. I didn't use their photos because they weren't very good -- even fuzzier than these.
happy belated April fool's day...
i don't think pulling funding for Nascar would have been so inappropriate in any case, desperate times and all
