The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 5/14/09

-Headline of the day-
"Clinton: Cheney needs 'target practice.'"

CNN caught up with former president Bill Clinton (who was campaigning with his wife's former hyperactive campaign manager Terry McAuliffe as McAuliffe runs for governor in Virginia) and asked him what he thought of Dick Cheney's hypercritical anti-Obama, pro-torture media tour.

"I wish him well," Clinton said, but noted of the Bush administration, "It's over."

"I do hope he gets some more target practice before he goes out again," he said.

Ooooh! Burn! Because Dick Cheney once got hammered and shot some poor guy in the face -- apparently because he thought the guy was a quail. Seems to me that's the way any interview with Cheney should begin; "So, tell us about the time you shot Harry Whittington in the face. Just how wasted were you?"

I'm guessing Cheney's media blitz would come to an abrupt end. (Politico)

-"We hate them (whoever they are)"-
The religious right is gearing up for a big fight over Obama's nominee to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice David Souter. According to the report, top religious crazies met with "several Republican Senators yesterday to plot strategy on how to defeat President Obama's Supreme Court nominee."

They decided they needed money, a media campaign to "reverse what has generally been positive press for most of the mentioned possible nominees," a big can of whoopass -- and a nominee. They don't have any idea who Obama will nominate. There's a list put together by the media, but that's all speculation and really doesn't mean squat.

But they know the nominee will be bad, because President Obama's a commie and a baby-killer and a secret Muslim terr'ist.

If you think about it, this puts the right on their home turf -- almost complete ignorance. A wingnut never feels so comfortable as they do when they have absolutely no idea what the hell they're talking about.

Once Obama's nominee has a name, then they'll be screwed. (Right Wing Watch)

-Let them eat teabags-
Remember how everyone hated Republicans, but then they held these teabag protests and now everyone loves them? Yeah, that's because that's not the way it happened. People hated the GOP, they held their big "tea parties," and now everyone still hates them.

But Republicans know that if something you're doing isn't working, it just means you're not doing enough of it. So more tea parties are on the way -- only a duller, less exciting version of them. According to the report, "South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) and Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) will host a conference call version of the tea parties on Thursday, aiming to attract thousands of activists angry at government spending and corporate bailouts."

Wow, thousands of angry conference callers. How ineffective.

"It won't be as good as the first round of tea parties," Sanford told FOX News. "But I suspect there'll be Tea Party 2.0 and 3.0 and 4.0 and 5.0, and go down the list, because what I saw at the original tea party was a level of political energy that I've not seen in the last 15 years that I've been involved in the political process, and I think it's important that that energy gets harnessed toward creating change toward the conservative side."

Of course, that tremendous political energy was turned into misspelled signs calling Barack Obama Hitler and Stalin -- which probably explains the whole conference call idea.

"The idea is to learn more of what's happening at a grassroots level so that we can take those ideas and try and plug them into... places in our respective states and through the Republican Governors Association," Sanford said.

Now there's a great idea -- ask your average teabagging nutjob what they think Republicans should do. My guess, more signs calling Barack Obama Hitler and Stalin. (The Hill)
