Michele Bachmann's getting some press for dissing birthers on Good Morning America. And there's nothing wrong with that in itself, since "Birthers are Too Crazy Even for Shelly" is actually halfway newsy. But the real story, as pointed out by Bill Scher and Steve Benen, is that Bachmann basically called for middle class tax hikes in the same interview. This is getting almost zero coverage.
If you want a glimpse of what the 2012 campaign is going to look like, there ya go: a laser-like focus on goofiness. Strap in, because things are going to get double-O-stoopid.
A second and related observation: the press is all about Donald Trump and Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich and Shelly Bechmann, but the guy who polling shows comes the closest to beating Obama in a head-to-head matchup is Mittens Romney -- who can't get any coverage from the talking heads. Once again I find myself urging you to avoid almost all TV news like the plague. They aren't actually covering the news -- they aren't even covering the horserace -- they're just interested in the carnival sideshow.
If you work at Koch Industries, you have to read wingnut propaganda, thanks to the Citizens United ruling.
Nate Silver looks at recent polling and confirms that people against marriage equality are now a minority.
Warren G. Harding, ladies man.
Reason to ignore 2012 polling just now: Pew finds it's all name recognition at this point.
Finally, Wisconsin news in a nutshell -- dems file recall petition against a fifth Republican target, Kloppenburg announces she does want a recount.
