Conservatives react to new polling: ‘It’s not twoo! It’s not twoo!’

Is your candidate down in the polls? Just completely deny reality and force the universe to bend to your will! Check out these headlines from conservative blogs, in reaction to the devastating polling news out today:

I’ve covered this trend already. The short version of the wingnut conspiracy theory is that every single poll put out by every single everybody is wrong. Worse, they’re intentionally wrong. It’s all a big media conspiracy to get conservatives to stay home on election day. The whole thing is just as stupid as it sounds.

But man, does this ever explain things like birtherism and Glenn Beck, huh? Being a modern conservative means being able to totally disregard reality if it doesn’t suit you. Isaac Asimov explained this long ago; “Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’”

Except for the day after election day, when Republicans will wake up to find that wishing does not make it so and their ignorance was just as valid as ignorance always is.
