Stories to Watch: 12/28/12


Gun right activists really are just whiny little pricks.


It's a sad day for privacy as the surveillance state marches on.


The President says that if no deal can be hammered out, his proposal to avoid the fiscal cliff should get an up or down vote. Which might be the only way anything solution gets a vote. There was some talk a while back about having Republicans hold their noses and vote "present," in order to allow a bill to pass without any Republicans having to actually vote for it. It may be time to resurrect that idea.


John McCain offers filibuster reform. Predictably, it's a joke. Says Ezra Klein, "This is filibuster reform for people who don’t want to reform the filibuster."


Also from Klein; the economic toll of a society saturated with guns.


At heart, conservatives are anarchists without any guts.


I doubt you'll be surprised to learn that Republican extremism is to blame for the partisan divide. But this time the statement's backed up with math.


Finally, the victim of a recent brutal gang rape that set off a wave of protests in India has died.
