In bizarre turn, man promising to use 2nd Amendment to fight tyrants punished, not rewarded

Denver Post:

Denver police have arrested a Colorado Springs man for sending racially and sexually offensive e-mails to state Rep. Rhonda Fields, including one that said he hoped she would meet the same fate as a congresswoman who was shot in the head.

Franklin Glenn Sain, 42, was arrested Friday on suspicion of harassing Fields, D-Aurora, and unlawfully attempting to influence a public official.

Sain told police he was “just voicing some frustrations” about the Aurora legislator’s efforts to tighten state gun laws.

Some of the concerns voiced by this responsible gun owner include:

  • “I keep my 30 Round Magazines There Will Be Blood! I’m Coming For You!”
  • “Hopefully somebody Gifords [sic] both of your asses with a gun….” — referring to fields and fellow Rep. Beth McCann.
  • A threat to the life of Fields’ daughter.
  • Emails and voicemails “laced with profanity and racial and sexual epithets.”

Weird. It’s almost like there’s something wrong with promising to bring rightful and patriotic justice to people you think are tyrants. Like maybe it’s illegal or something.

I guess the problem with this whole tyrant-fighting gig is that you’re not allowed to declare someone a tyrant unilaterally and execute them for their tyranny. In fact, you don’t even get to talk about doing it with the tyrant. Maybe — just maybe — the Second Amendment really is about that whole “well-regulated militia” thing it talks about and not the right of any crackpot with a gun to cast the assassin’s veto — a “right” that it doesn’t say a word about.

Turns out that maybe the founders weren’t bloodthirsty psychopaths after all. Imagine that.
