Stories to Watch: 5/29/13


Anthony Weiner is beginning to look more like a serious challenge to frontrunner Christine Quinn's bid for the office of NYC Mayor. In the latest polling, Quinn is at 24% and Weiner is at 19%. According to the report, that number is "her lowest mark" so far in the cycle and Weiner accounts for almost all the loss. And a majority of voters -- 53% -- say he "deserves a second chance" after stepping down in a sexting scandal. This is hardly surprising, since Weiner was a very popular liberal firebrand before he fell in scandal.


Working for al Qaeda is less like being a Bond villain and more like being a burned out office drone. I'm not sure if this says more about al Qaeda or more about the corporate world.

You should be worried about the alliance between conspiracy-theorizing talk radio hosts and the gun lobby. Seriously, think terrified, crazy, racist. religious zealots with guns. Unless the whole thing runs out of steam, it's hard to see it turning out well. Seriously, these people are fucking insane.


Meanwhile, Newtown families aren't even close to being done with the NRA. And they have powerful allies.


Longtime wingnut Phyllis Schlafly urges Republicans to embrace their inner racist.


Republicans would like to know if Attorney General Eric Holder lied under oath about the media and leak investigations.


Finally, Maine Gov. Paul LePage suggests shooting the state legislature -- mostly because he's bonkers.
