Not a surprise: conservative icon Schlafly a horrible racist

Phyllis Schlafly speaks at CPAC
Right Wing Watch: Eagle Forum founder Phyllis Schlafly has been making the media rounds recently to encourage the GOP to drop any attempts to reach out to Latino voters – especially through bipartisan immigration policy – and instead to focus exclusively on riling up and turning out white voters.

Speaking with a Bakersfield, California, talk radio host last week, Schlafly further explained this view, claiming that Latinos don’t “have any Republican inclinations at all” because “they’re running an illegitimacy rate that’s just about the same as the blacks are.”

She added that Latinos “come from a country where they have no experience with limited government. And the types of rights we have in the Bill of Rights, they don’t understand that at all, you can’t even talk to them about what the Republican principle is.”
She didn’t get digs in against Asians, Jews, or Muslims, but you’ve got to assume that’s just because there was only so much time.

After SCOTUS conservatives gutting the Voting Rights Act, Republicans are in very real danger of being seen as (or, more accurately, being recognized as) a blatantly racist party. I don’t care how much they love old Phyllis here, every time someone on their side says something like this, they’re going to have to pretty much destroy them. Otherwise, it’s just one more item in the mountain pf evidence against them.

Of course they won’t. They won’t even mention it when Schlafly or Pat Buchanan or Pat Robertson or any of a number of racist conservatives open their idiot mouths. They’ll just hope that no one notices.

And so that mountain grows ever higher and that growing number of minority votes slips further and further away.
