Stories to Watch: 2/11/14

The rightwing outrage machine fires up in reaction to University of Missouri defensive end Michael Sam's revelation that he is gay. As usual, Rush Limbaugh is especially stupid and panic stricken. These people get more and more ridiculous and clownish on a daily basis.

Wall Street Journal editor James Taranto believes that in cases of "'sexual assault' on campus" (note his scare quotes around 'sexual assault,' as if it's some crazy made-up thing), both assailant and victim are equally to blame if the victim is drunk.

Ed Kilgore points out that supposedly "explosive new revelations" about Hillary Clinton are not explosive, new, nor revelations.

Don't look now, but the Benghazi!!! hoax just died again.

A rightwing religious fanatic and anti-abortion terrorist is apparently also a child molester. Family values, everyone.

Immigration reform advocates announce they're going to play hardball against the GOP for abandoning their cause. The Politico story warns that it may backfire -- but that's because it's Politico and they like to pretend that everything is always equally bad for everyone. What it will really do is give Republican candidates plenty of opportunity to say incredibly racist things in public. And you just know a few of them will take the bait.

In a post-Breaking Bad world, HBO's True Detective fits the "best drama on TV" bill. It also proves all the "end of the anti-hero" types wrong. Not politics, I know. But if you didn't know about it, you'll thank me for pointing you to it.

Finally, expect a big document dump next Wednesday, as "thousands of emails and other documents" from a probe into one of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's aides are released to the public. For the record, these aren't documents from the current probe and Scooter walked on the last one; so I wouldn't expect anything too earth-shattering. Still, there could be a few gold nuggets in there.
