News Roundup for 5/9/11

Koch brothers
A couple of commie treehuggers

-Headline of the day-
"Lawsuit against Koch Industries press release parody dismissed."

The Koch brothers are just two secretive billionaires who are trying to use wealth to dominate the American political landscape and produce Koch-friendly legislation -- is that so wrong?

Apparently, a group of anonymous environmentalists think so. Mostly because they hate America. These radical leftists sent out a hoax press release in the name of Koch Industries to major news outlets and this is just the worst thing ever.

"This lawsuit was filed because the integrity of our computer systems and our valuable intellectual property was compromised and used without permission, in violation of the terms of service and federal law," the company said.

So, what libelous, awful, insulting lie were the treehuggers spreading? According to the report, the suit was "against a group of anonymous environmentalists who created a satirical press release claiming that Koch Industries would help fight climate change."

Koch Industries giving a fuck about the environment? That's a filthy lie and you take it back, you hippies! (Raw Story)

Stories to Watch: 4/17/11

Pot roast tonight. Just chop up some potatoes, onions, etc. and throw it all in a slow-cooker. Easiest meal ever. Now here's the news...

If I had to pick two words to describe Sarah Palin's appearance in Madison, they would have to be "anticlimactic" and "inconsequential." Standing behind a podium draped with a banner from the Koch-funded Americans For Prosperity, Palin was merely a paid celebrity endorser and the "rally" was nothing more than an infomercial. It also did little to dispel the perception that the Koch brother's are behind all this. In fact, it pretty much proved it.

And it also proved what most suspect: Andrew Breitbart is a real asshole. A rich whiner jetting in from California -- or wherever the hell he's living now -- Andy not only stuck his nose in local politics that have jackshit to do with him, but he also used the Koch-supplied PA system to tell middle class Wisconsinites who didn't agree with him to "go to hell." Fuck you, Andy Breitbart. Fuck you very much.

The media and the blogosphere seems to think Palin's infomercial was tremendously important, however. See if they're still talking about it on Tuesday.

When is a racist email not really racist? When you get caught circulating it.

Donald Trump finds a new crazy-assed thing to generate headlines.

Former Bushie Mark McKinnon says Jon Kyl's statement that wasn't meant to be a factual statement was "completely bullshit" -- on national teevee.

Is Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker planning to follow Michigan's example by throwing local democracy out the window and declaring "financial martial law?" We know for a fact he wants to raise taxes... Just not on rich people and corporations. So a new way to screw people must be very appealing to Scooter.

Finally, on the off-chance you missed this, check it out: how to veto the living shit out of wingnut legislation.

Stories to Watch: 2/26/11

Big rally at the Wisconsin capitol so, if you can make it, go. About 3 pm. Also, watch the news for a possible showdown between Scott Walker and police. I'm thinking Walker would probably succeed in clearing the capitol -- the crowds have been well-behaved so far -- but that it'll be bad PR for him.

Kaddafi's still an asshole.

Are Republicans getting weak-kneed over the prospect of a government shut down?

Newt Gingrich bangs the impeachment drum over Obama's refusal to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act. That'd be a huge disaster for Republicans, so of course, I encourage Newt to keep banging that drum. You'll be President of All Crazy People yet, Newt! Sarah Palin's fifteen-minute term has nearly ended. You'll just never be President of the United States.

Remember, when a Republican talks about how much they care about babies, they mean hypothetical babies. Once those babies become real, they couldn't give a big hot bowl of crap.

The Wisconsin 14 are not alone.

Finally, ThinkProgress schools Walker on history, Reagan, and unions. Learning the lessons of history is a good thing, Scooter. Learning lessons from revisionist history is dumb. One Polish word for you, Scott, "Solidarnosc."
