Feingold Rules Out Presidential Run

IMO, it's one of those good news/bad news things. We'll start with the bad news.

WKOW:

Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold says with the Democrats' victory he's decided to remain in the Senate and not seek the Democratic nomination for president in 2008.

Feingold announced his decision in a letter to friends and supporters of his Progressive Patriots Fund, as posted on the group's Web site.

Today he tells the A-P though he did explore the option, he never felt strongly about running.

The Democrat says today he's energized to return to work in Congress, where Democrats have taken control of the House and possibly the Senate.

Feingold also says though he's ruled out a run for the top job, he would consider joining the ticket as a vice presidential candidate.

VP would be nice, but short of President, I've always felt that Russ would be best suited for Attorney General. In fact, I've wanted AG Feingold for some time. That's the good news part -- he's available.

Russ's full statement is available at his diary on Daily Kos.
