If We Want Good News on Global Warming, We're Going to Have to Make it Ourselves

You know, it'd be real nice to get some good news about global warming for a change...

Reuters:

Rising temperatures will leave millions more people hungry by 2080 and cause critical water shortages in China and Australia, as well as parts of Europe and the United States, according to a new global climate report.

By the end of the century, climate change will bring water scarcity to between 1.1 and 3.2 billion people as temperatures rise by 2 to 3 Celsius (3.6 to 4.8 Fahrenheit), a leaked draft of an Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report said.

The report, due for release in April but detailed in The Age newspaper, said an additional 200 million to 600 million people across the world would face food shortages in another 70 years, while coastal flooding would hit another 7 million homes.

Here's a fun idea -- let's stop pretending we can deny this is happening or successfully wish it away. Let's stop giving a damn what the oil companies say -- their wells are going dry anyway and they're only trying to delay an inevitable oil-free world. Let's stop caring about the weak, timid, baby steps the Bush administration proposes. Mankind lives in a world largely of our own making -- let's stop letting the short-sighted, the weak-minded, the greed-driven, and the completely delusional do all the making.

States are moving toward addressing global warming. Cities and towns are. Screw Bush -- he's never going to do a damned thing about it. If the changes at the local level are total, what the idiots at the national level want to do becomes irrelevant.
