The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 4/10/07

Sophisticated... And healthy, too!

-Allowing people to be terrified of their govt. in new and interesting ways-
Yahoo China has announced a new blogging network that will allow users to write about their thoughts, swap photos, and pursue their hobbies. See a problem here? Yeah, me too. From the report; "Hobbies, huh? Gotta wonder what falls under that rubric in China. Lots of people like model airplanes and knitting. But people also like to vent, rant and express political opinion. And when that happens in China via Yahoo, those people often wind up behind bars." (27B Stroke 6)

-A Pall Mall a day...-
A new University of Miami study shows that coffee and cigarettes may help ward off Parkinson's disease. Showing that Parkinson's patients are 'less likely to be smokers and coffee drinkers than their healthy siblings,' the study finds that tobacco may not be all bad. No word on the health benefits of hookers and booze. (New Scientist)

-Juvenile delinquent-
Police in Burnham-on-Sea, UK ordered a 5 year old boy to cease and desist his 'graffiti.' The definition of 'graffiti' must be pretty broad there, since the kid was marking out a hopscotch grid with street chalk. Rain later in the day washed the chalk away. "Officers attended because anti-social behaviour is a priority," a police spokesperson told reporters. A spokesperon for the criminal element in Burnham-on-Sea expressed happiness that police waste their time on bullshit. (Daily Mail)
