A glimpse into Gonzo's future?
-A case study in bad decision making-
On his way to meet with Don Imus and the Rutgers Women's Basketball team, NJ governor Jon Corzine was involved in a serious car accident that reports call 'near fatal.' Corzine is in critical, but stable, condition and is expected to recover. Police are looking for a 'late 1980s or early 1990s Ford F-150 pickup truck with faded red paint' and Jersey plates. Witnesses say the truck was 'driving erratically' just before causing the three car pile up.
On the off chance that the driver is reading this, let me translate -- you just hit and run the governor of New Jersey. You are so fucked. (WNBC)
-"We are trying to muddy the coverage up a bit"-
From an email from Justice Department spokeswoman Tasia Scolinos to Bush counselor Dan Bartlett and Cheney aide Cathie Martin regarding the federal attorney purge:
Right now the coverage will be dominated by how qualified these folks were and their theories for their dismissals. We are trying to muddy the coverage up a bit by trying to put the focus on the process in which they were told -- I suspect we are going to get to the point where DOJ has to say this anyway. First, it is true. Second, we are having morale problems with our other U.S. attorneys who understand the decision but think that these folks were not treated well in the process.
No word on whether Gonzales is packing up his desk. (Think Progress)
-They don't show that on Home Makeover-
What does a DIY craze, Home Depot stores on every corner, and thousands of people messing around with power tools on the weekend mean? Someplace in the neighborhood of 37,000 nailgun injuries a year. The Centers for Disease Control reports that nailgun injuries have increased 200% since 1991. Just remember 'nail'+'gun'=freakin' dangerous... (Reuters)
-What happens to your head when you don't wear a helmet at football practice-
University of Toledo football player Richard Davis has been charged with attempted aggravated burglary. While carrying a shotgun and pistol, Davis was trying to break into a home to confront a fellow player he'd had an ongoing dispute with. Unfortunately (or fortunately), Davis got the wrong address and found himself looking down the barrel of off-duty Lucas County Sheriff's Deputy Vincent Scott's service pistol. "This could have ended so horribly," Toledo police Capt. Ray Carroll said. "He could have killed somebody or been killed himself." I'm guessing Davis thinks it did end horribly. (Toledo Blade)
