The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 7/9/07

Typical Washington state healthcare professional

-Headline of the day-
"Crawford tourism plummets with Bush's unpopularity." You know, if Crawford residents hadn't done such a good job of demonstrating how crappy they treat protesters with Cindy Sheehan, the town could've been an antiwar Mecca. Serves 'em right... (Think Progress)

-We don't fire employees, we exorcise them-
A pediatric clinic in Puyallup, WA is being called a 'hostile work environment' in a federal lawsuit filed by two former employees. Lexi Foster and Vergel Worrell claim that 'employees who didn't participate in the prayers were told they were not team players' by nursing managers .

The suit says that Foster was pressured to attend church and told 'that she was going to hell and would lead other employees to hell through her poor example.' Both Foster and Worrell say they were forced to pray. Worrell was told he was 'Satan himself.'

That's what you love about healthcare professionals -- their total commitment to reason. (Seattle Post-Intelligencer)

-Confusing headline of the day-
"Dog saved after fall at Dog Falls." Say what?

It turns out that Kyle, a 14 year old Jack Russel-collie mix, fell into a gorge called 'Dog Falls' in the Scottish Highlands. He spent three hours paddling around down there, but was eventually rescued by an 'inland rescue coastguard team and firefighters' and is recovering from his ordeal with his family who -- you hope -- now understands the importance of a leash.

In related news, dogs can read signs at parks, but are weak on comprehension. (BBC)
