The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 10/4/07

Jamming a hot dog into a potato
Sen. Craig abuses a potato

-Double-entendre-palooza-
Not Gay Sen. Larry Craig's favorite recipe is the "Super Tuber." We know this because he listed it on a website for congress critters' recipes. Not surprisingly, the Idaho Republican's recipe involves a potato -- his state's claim to fame. That's when things get weird; a "Super Tuber" is a potato with a hotdog jammed through it. Seriously.

The real fun starts when you get to the directions for preparing said tuber:

Wash and dry potato. Rub with shortening or butter. With an apple corer or small knife, core out the potato center (end to end). Push hot dog through the center. Bake until potato is cooked through.

Do I really need to come up with a joke here? I'm sure you have plenty of your own. Maybe changing "Push hot dog through the center," to "Push hot dog through the center repeatedly" or something. Check out Food Goat for a photographic blow-by-blow on how to make your own "Super Tuber."Have fun and play safe, people. (Congress Cooks!, via The Rachel Maddow Show)

-More Bad Reporter-
I don't know what I could possibly add here:

Headline: 'Judge: Spears Must Hand Over Childred to Dingo for Safety'

As always, click the image for the full strip. Also starring Blackwater USA owner Erik Prince, Phil Spector, Clarence Thomas, and Anita Hill. Sadly, Not Gay Sen. Larry Craig does not make an appearance, ruining what could've been a perfectly good theme for today's roundup. (San Francisco Gate)

-Our long national nightmare has not ended-
Not Gay Sen. Larry Craig says he's not gay. A Minnesota judge says we're going to have to take his word for that.

Craig's bid to have his earlier guilty plea withdrawn has ended in failure. Most legal experts expected this outcome and the judge didn't disappoint. "The defendant chose to not appear and to enter his plea by mail just so he could avoid any such public, of record, inquiry into his conduct," Judge Charles A. Porter wrote in his decision. He added in underlined text, "He kept many of the facts out of the record in so doing. He cannot now complain that he should not have allowed to take advantage of an approved method to enter a misdemeanor plea."

Despite earlier assurances that he'd step down if his bid to withdraw the plea failed, Craig now say he won't resign. Of course, that's what he says today. He's been changing his story throughout this whole thing. Be ready for an entirely different story tomorrow. (Washington Post)
