The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 10/9/07

-"Have I got your attention now?"-
That's what 75 year old Mona Shaw asked Comcast customer service after she'd gone to their payment center in Manassas, VA and busted up a monitor, keyboard, and a phone with a hammer. While trying to change her service from Verizon to Comcast's Triple Play -- one of those phone/cable/internet deals -- Shaw became, shall we say, irritated with the shitty customer service, installation delays, and excuses. Left with a half-finished install in her home and calls routed to the wrong phone number, she took things to the next level.

"I smashed a keyboard, knocked over a monitor ... and I went to hit the telephone. I figured, 'Hey my telephone is screwed up, so is yours,'" Shaw told a reporter. Although her actions resulted in an arrest for disorderly conduct, she's philosophical. "What the hell, I'm 75," she says. She's received an apology from Comcast, but it didn't sway her any. Shaw is now back with Verizon.

The story goes on to list the many ways that Comcast cable has sucked for people in the region. It sounds like they got off easy. (InsideNova.com)

-Freaking out about the crap that matters-
Conservative bloggers are freaking out over this:

Google logo featuring Sputnik

Seriously.

Google celebrated the 50th anniversary of the launch of the first man-made satellite, Sputnik, by adding it to their logo for the day. The problem is that Google didn't observe Veterans' Day or Memorial Day with similar logo art. And that the soviets were commies -- which I'm guessing is the real reason for all the wet pants on the right. The right sure misses the commies... (Raw Story)

-Quote of the day-
"Oh shit, he's dumb as hell. Fred Thompson. Who is he? He won't say anything," Richard Nixon on the now-presidential hopeful's helpfulness to the Nixon White House. Bonus QotD:

"He isn't very smart, is he?" Nixon asks.

"Not extremely so, but --," [White House counsel Fred] Buzhardt says, interrupted by the president.

"But he's friendly," Nixon says.

"But he's, he's friendly," Buzhardt echoes.

"Good."

And they say his campaign's not going anywhere. Let's hear it for Fred in '08! [crickets chirping] (ABC News)
