The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 12/4/07

unhappy couple
Save the world -- stay with someone who's an asshole

-One is the most environmentally harmful number-
You've heard of people who stay together for the kids. Now there's another reason to avoid divorce -- the planet.

A new University of Michigan study finds that "divorced American households used between 42 and 61 percent more resources per person than before they separated, spending 46 percent more per person on electricity and 56 percent more on water." People living together share resources and wash more clothes in each load of laundry or often travel in the same car, for example.

"Hopefully this will inform people about the environmental impact of divorce," said researcher Jianguo Liu. "For a long time we've blamed industries for environmental problems. One thing we've ignored is the household." If marriage isn't your thing, don't worry -- living in sin is just as green. (Washington Post)

-Headline of the day-
"Argentina: Ugly people strike back." And it's not pretty... (BBC)

-Beautifying the neighborhood-
Kazuo Oshitani of Osaka, Japan has been arrested after his fetish for women's underwear got the better of him. According to the report, he "allegedly wore girls' underwear and nylons and then scattered them across his block in western Osaka prefecture." He said he was aroused by thinking about "how shocked people would get when spotting the underwear."

Police say, "He allegedly spread girls' underpants and nylons on bicycles, cars and even the front doors of his neighbours." Responding to some 170 complaints from the neighborhood, police raided Oshitani's home "and confiscated more than 200 pairs of underwear and a few sex toys."

Wearing women's underwear is perfectly legal in Japan, as is owning sex toys. Mr. Oshitani is charged with littering. (IOL)
