The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 1/8/08

New Hampshire voters are having a similar reaction to ballots

-Going like hotcakes-
The New Hampshire primary is already looking pretty hot -- for Democrats. The Secretary of State was already getting requests for additional ballots as of early this afternoon. That's before the voting gets really gets going.

The report tells us that, according to "[New Hampshire Deputy Secretary of State Dave] Scanlan, the ballot strain seems to be on Democratic ballots, which suggests that the undeclared voters are breaking for the Democratic primary. New Hampshire Secretary of State William Gardner predicted that 90,000 undeclared voters would vote in the Democratic primary compared to 60,000 voting in the Republican primary."

Sources say that voting in many districts is about double what was previously expected. Louise Gosselin, a poll worker, told the New Hampshire Union Leader that 150 voters an hour were expected, while the polls in her district are experiencing about 300 hourly.

-Headline of the day-
"Is Giuliani Waiting Too Long?"

Not for me. As far as I'm concerned, he can really start campaigning hard about February of 2009. (TIME)

-In related Rudy news-
A new study shows that a President Giuliani could conceivably kill us all -- and not in the way you'd think.

According to the report, "Researchers [at UC Irvine] showed that stress responses to the 9/11 attacks -- particularly those that persisted for years afterward -- were linked to a 53 percent increase in cardiac ailments. The most common triggers of renewed stress were videos of the attacks in the media (thanks, Rudy!) and -- you guessed it -- the rise and fall of DHS' terror alert levels. All that politically opportunistic drum-beating has actually made us sick. Perhaps if Americans had universal health insurance, the government would think twice about such callous manipulation."

Although, now that I think about it, this report's pretty alarming as well. Just breath deep, relax, and imagine a calm blue sea. That's better... (MoJo Blog)
