Pictured left to right; Rep. John Boehner, cranky baby
-It takes real talent to be the downer at a funeral-
The whole thing started when the House of Representatives decided to vote on contempt charges for White Housers Josh Bolten and Harriet Miers. The two have refused to honor subpoenas to appear before a committee looking into Gonzogate -- the firing of federal prosecutors for political reasons.
Well, expecting Bushies to live by the rule of law was just going too far for House Minority Leader John Boehner, who decided the best way to deal with things were either to gather up his hoop skirt and flee the vote or faint. The House being short on fainting couches, Boehner opted for the former. Political theater ensued as House Republicans stormed out in protest of accountability. That'll show those Democrats! Ha-rumph!
The problem? The big hissy fit coincided with a memorial for a recently deceased Representative. "Right in the middle of the Statuary Hall service for the late Tom Lantos, a Republican went to the floor -- just steps from the solemn proceedings -- and called a procedural vote, apparently out of pique," reads the report.
Note to Boehner, protesting at funerals is Fred Phelps' gimmick. Keep it up and he'll sue you for copyright infringement or something. (Outside The Beltway, which has video)
-Headline of the day-
"The Internets Hate John McCain."
Evangelicals hate John McCain with the passion of a thousand burning suns. In a recent GodTube poll, John scores a whopping 9.1% (GodTube, BTW, is an evangelical version of YouTube -- censored just the way the nuts like it).
If you hate John McCain too and you want the world to know it, you'd better get hopping. According to the report, "The competition for anti-John McCain Web sites is so stiff that those looking to register new ones say the best names have been snatched up already ... At last check, StopMcCain.com, NoWayMcCain.com, ConservativesAgainstMcCain.com and RepublicansAgainstMcCain.com were all taken, as was IHateMcCain.com and the pointed VietnamVeteransAgainstJohnMcCain.com."
All of the good ones are taken? I found that hard to believe, so I did a little investigative journalism. I ran a quick check and McCainSucksMonkeys.com, JohnMcCainLovesFrance.com, and JohnMcCainShotMyGoddamDog.com are all unclaimed.
Go snap them up. (Right Wing Watch)
-Moving right along...-
Hurricane Katrina victims are going to have to move out of those FEMA trailers. Turns out all that formaldehyde that the Centers for Disease Control said wasn't a problem has been determined by the Centers for Disease Control to be a problem. The report tells us that one third of the trailers have "unacceptably high levels of formaldehyde for children, the elderly and people with respiratory problems" and that 5% are so toxic that "even healthy adults would suffer respiratory symptoms if exposed for long periods of time."
This is a problem, since the span between Hurricane Katrina and the present day can be described as a "long period of time." So, people who were evacuated to FEMA trailers are now being evacuated from FEMA trailers. If the trend continues, expect them to be moved into tents made from woven poison ivy fibers and waterproofed with depleted uranium. (USA Today)
