The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 2/27/08

Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert
"This just in from Nantucket..."

-Concise-
Stephen Colbert sums up the John McCain-Vickie Iseman scandal in a limerick:

There once was a man named McCain
Who had the whole White House to gain,
But he was quite a hobbyist
Of boning his lobbyists,
So much for his ’08 campaign.

Dead center in one shot. I'm so glad the writers' strike is over. (Crooks and Liars, which has video)

-Headline of the day-
"FOX Host blames egg salad attack on Obama fan."

Yeah, it's just as weird as it sounds. A Texas state capitol employee got a little hot when Secret Service agents guarding Barack Obama "wouldn't allow her to return to her office when Obama spoke at the capitol Friday."

According to the report, "The affidavit said Firsching told [the Secret Service officer] that, 'You’re going to have to arrest me' and attempted to go past him. Sanders grabbed her by the arm to turn her around when she threw a plastic bowl of egg salad at him and struck him in the face with the bowl, the affidavit said."

Not nice, but the report tells us, "There's no indication that the woman, 47-year-old Tracy Firsching, was an Obama supporter." Of course, this is FOX News we're talking about, so it's all Obama's fault.

"Barack Obama has a lot of big fans but one woman went a bit too far, sending his secret service detail into action," newsmodel Martha McClullen told viewers. Just in case the misrepresentation was lost on the FOX droolers, "McClullen invoked assassinations of civil rights leaders" and showed clips "of African American demonstrators being sprayed with fire hoses as they fought for equal rights."

FOX News' motto; "We report, you freak the fuck out!" (Raw Story)

-Well, that there's your problem...-
Florida's big blackout yesterday was caused by a bad switch. That's right, A bad switch. According to the report, "It took only three minutes for an overheated switch and then a fire at a power substation near Miami on Tuesday afternoon to shut down a nuclear plant south of the city and trigger Florida's largest blackout in at least 20 years."

At least it wasn't a blown 20 amp fuse that was replaced with a penny. America's infrastructure, folks -- solid as glass. (South Florida Sun-Sentinel)
