Typical GOP event
-Headline of the day-
"Sex workers get 'more business' at GOP conventions."
Bonus quote of the day, from a story about a boom for prostitutes and strippers during the Democratic National convention in Denver: "It would be a lot better for the sex workers if it was the Republican convention. We get a lot more business. I don't know if they're just frustrated because of the family values agenda." -- Jay Watson, Denver-area entrepreneur "who promises an unforgettable milk bath and lotion massage for $125 an hour."
I suppose the real news is that any time you get a bunch of politicians from either party in one place, the hookers make a bundle. But the fact that the "holier than thou" types are the biggest cash cow for the bump and grind industry is hilarious. Hypocrisy, anyone? The GOP has plenty to spare... -It's official, he's a joke-
Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left, From Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning, by National Review's Jonah Goldberg is pretty much what the title says it is -- an argument that liberalism is fascism. Literally.
Liberals have been taking Goldberg's hit job for pretty much what it is for some time -- as a dumbass screed written by some dope who's never been right about anything. Amazon.com takes things one step further. Liberal Fascism is listed as "parody" on the online bookseller's site
"Over at Amazon, my book's page no longer displays its rank in 'politics,' but in 'parodies,'" Goldberg says. "I'm sure it's just an honest mistake." Actually, it's because of the meta-tags attached to the listing by Amazon users, which include "doughy pantload," "banged out by howler monkeys," "code pink invaded poland," and "if michelle malkin is over your head."
Jonah Goldberg's kind of like Bill O'Reilly or Ann Coulter that way -- pretty much anything this guy does is so ridiculous it immediately becomes self-parody. So Amazon's right, Goldberg's wrong. It is parody and it's not an honest mistake. (Raw Story, Democratic Underground)
-And you thought Americans were dumb...
A recent survey of UK households found brits amazingly ignorant of history. Among the findings were that a majority thought Sherlock Holmes, King Arthur, and Eleanor Rigby were real people, but that Richard the Lionhearted, Winston Churchill, and Gandhi were not.
"This suggests a complete lack of common sense and respect for our greatest heroes of the past," says historian Correlli Barnett. Don't feel bad, Britain, a majority of American's think Mike Huckabee's real. In fact, he's just an upgraded robot from the Country Bears exhibit at Disney Land.
No lie. (Daily Mail)
