The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 3/11/08

Karl Rove at the University of Iowa
Karl Rove pictured making a stupid statement

-Not the best choice of words-
Karl Rove had a bad day sunday, when an audience at the University of Iowa wasn't exactly friendly. According to the report, "Rove, who was paid $40,000 to speak at the University, was confronted with an at-times hostile crowd of 1,000, and was interrupted on several occasions."

After one such interruption, Rove said, "You got a chance to ask your questions later and make your stupid statements, let me make mine." It may have been the first time Rove's ever admitted that he only makes stupid statements.

Still, at $40,000 a pop, the stupid statements racket seems to pay pretty well. That's why Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, and Rush Limbaugh laugh all the way to the bank. (CNN)

-Headline of the day-
"Searching For Media Hypocrisy, Doocy Falsely Claims Vitter Prostitute Scandal Led To '06 Losses."

That'd be Steve Doocy of FOX News' morning bullshit show, FOX and Friends. Steve's little story of media hypocrisy, electoral disaster, and hookers only needs one more little detail to get it to work -- a freakin' time machine.

Lousiana Sen. David Vitter's own hooker scandal broke in July of 2007.

But hey, thanks for bringing up Vitter, Steve. Say, isn't he still in office? Didn't he not resign? Don't expect a thank you note from him, Steve. I'm sure he's just happy as a clam you brought him up.

FOX News, ladies and gentleman, providing jobs for the mentally helpless since 1996. (Think Progress)

-Junk food? Really?-
I came across a headline on reddit and, as soon as I saw it, I knew what it referenced. "A 75 year old organic, vegan 'junk food' that only has 3 ingredients and you've all eaten before," it read. I don't know if you could call it "organic," since that has as much to do with method as ingredients, but vegans can eat it without a twang of conscience.

Need a hint? Corn, oil, salt.

Nothing? What if I told you it once had a non-PC mexican stereotype bandito as a spokescartoon?

That's right, it's that raw salt delivery-system, Fritos. OK, they're still not good for you, but at least they're not some chemical waste dump from Hostess. (Pop Rox, via reddit)
