The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 4/4/08

Zamfir album cover
Compared to Bush, wildly popular

-Headline of the day-
"Forget Bush, White House press corps captivated by pan flute master Zamfir."

In a measure of President Bush's dwindling popularity, the press covering Bush's attendance of a NATO summit in Bucharest were more interested in Romanian musician Zamfir, the "Master of the Pan Flute."

"I can safely say that we have never seen anything like this before," said CBS correspondent Bill Plante. Zamfir played a 30-minute set which, apparently, had the press corps enthralled. According to the report, "Although his popularity in Europe never quite seemed to catch on across the Atlantic, Zamfir made his mark on American television in the 1980s with late-night infomercials that seemed to be everywhere."

"We can all say we grew up with Zamfir," explained National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe. The press weren't the only ones ignoring Bush, as this photo from the German magazine Der Speigel illustrates:

Bush being ignored by dignitaries

Either Bush isn't the most popular guy in Europe or he's just farted. I think the odds are pretty much equal for either. (Raw Story, with Zamfir video)

-Don't ask, don't tell-
Edits to the Wikipedia entry of Maj. Alan Rogers, one of the soldiers whose death brought the death rate in Iraq to 4,000, have been traced to the Pentagon.

The problem; Rogers was gay. Except, with the edits, now he's not. Gay ex-Republican blogger Andrew Sullivan writes, "I can see why outing someone who is alive and closeted is unethical; inning someone who is dead and was out is a function of utterly misplaced sensitivity, rooted in well-intentioned but incontrovertible homophobia."

Of course, why change policy when you can change history? There are no gay people in the military -- check Wikipedia! (Think Progress)

-[Reddit] headline of the day-
"Torture Memo Revealed: Administration Can Do Anything, Kill Anybody, Torture Anybody, Anytime and Anywhere They Want To."

See, you need that kind of power to keep America safe from evildoers. Without that power, terrorists could come here and do anything, kill anybody, torture anybody, anytime and anywhere they want to.

You want that, you left wing, terr'ist lovin' commie? (reddit -- actual story at Brad Blog)
