The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 8/19/08

Don't mess with Fay

-Headline of the day-
"Global warming deniers forced to cancel meeting due to Tropical Storm Fay."

Americans for Prosperity, an astroturf organization for polluters that exists to promote global warming denial, had to cancel two "town hall meetings" in Ft. Myers and West Palm Beach, FL -- possibly due to global warming.

-Wow. Who saw that coming?-
Remember when those two guys said they had a dead Bigfoot in a freezer last week? Remember how pretty much no one believed they really did? Remember how a lot of people thought it looked like a Sasquatch costume?

Turns out that it was all a hoax. There is no Bigsquatch. The whole thing went belly up when someone actually bothered to take a look at the thing and saw that it was exactly what it looked like -- a costume in an old freezer.

Who would be stupid enough to believe any of this crap? Meet Searching For Bigfoot, Inc., who paid "an undisclosed sum" "for the rights to control publicity related to a dead Bigfoot." They've figured out that buying a pig in a poke wasn't a great idea and are now crying fraud.

Imagine my shock... (InformationWeek)

-Bonus HotD-
"AP Accidentally Calls Lieberman a Prick."

In discussing possible running mates for John McCain, AP reported, "His top contenders are said to include Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Less traditional choices mentioned include former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, an abortion-rights supporter, and Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Democratic vice presidential prick in 2000 who now is an independent."

The problem? Lieberman would only have been a vice presidential prick if Gore had won. As it is, Lieberman was just a jerkwad running mate.

It's these little technicalities that spoil what's otherwise amazingly accurate reporting. For the record, I don't think McCain will pick Lieberman, but it's almost a lead pipe cinch that he'll pick some prick. (Huffington Post)
