Sarah Palin and Tina Fey... either that or the other way around
-Wearing a hole in the sexism card-
The McCain campaign continues to wear out its deck of victimhood cards as McCain surrogate and top GOP fundraiser Carly Fiorina attacked a TV comedy sketch as sexist.
At issue is a Saturday Night Live sketch featuring Tina Fey as Sarah Palin. Hillary Clinton is not a woman in Fiorina's eyes apparently, since she was also portrayed by Amy Poehler in the sketch.
"The portrait was very dismissive of the substance of Sarah Palin, and so in that sense, they were defining Hillary Clinton as very substantive, and Sarah Palin as totally superficial," Fiorina said. "I think that continues the line of argument that is disrespectful in the extreme, and yes, I would say, sexist in the sense that just because Sarah Palin has different views than Hillary Clinton does not mean she lacks substance."
What? So saying that one woman is smarter than another woman is sexist now? Someone send me the rulebook on Republican feminism, because I'm really having a hard time figuring out what isn't sexist these days. I liked it better when liberals were running the feminism business and the whole thing made sense.
And how is Palin dealing with this horrible affront to her gender? "She thought it was quite funny, particularly because she once dressed up as Tina Fey for Halloween," spokesperson Tracey Schmitt told CBS.
How the hell are you supposed "dress up as Tina Fey for Halloween?" What'd she do, put on one of those stickers that people wear at high school reunions? "Hi! My name is: TINA FEY."
Anyhoo, they really need to get together about this stuff before they start trying to push their victimization. It really helps if you have your stories straight.
If they're not careful, people are going to start getting the idea that Team McCain makes a habit of straddling every issue. (Orlando Sentinel and TV Guide, which has video of the sketch)
-Is there room in there for another foot?-
Carly Fiorina makes the roundup twice today as she clarifies a statement about Sarah Palin. On a St. Louis radio show, Carly -- a former CEO of Hewlett Packard -- told listeners that Sarah Palin wasn't qualified to run a corporation.
Yeah, that was what you call a "misstep" or a "gaffe" or a "rare moment of unguarded candor." It turns out that running a whole damned nation is somewhat more challenging than running a corporation. People started to point this out and Fiorina decided she'd better take care of any misunderstanding.
So later on MSNBC, she "clarified" her comments by saying that McCain wasn't qualified to run a big corp either.

-Headline of the day-
"Palin Pick Pushes US Women's Group to Back Obama."
The National Organization of Women (NOW) is breaking from a tradition of not endorsing candidates to urge members to vote for Barack Obama. "NOW is going to be endorsing the Obama-Biden ticket..." said Kim Gandy, the group's head. "[Palin] is being portrayed as a supporter of women's rights... as a feminist when in fact her positions on so many of the issues are really anathema to ours."
Reached for comment, Carly Fiorina accused NOW of sexism and of denigrating McCain's service. "NOW?" she said. "John McCain is POW. Top that, motherfuckers." (Agence France-Presse)
