The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 9/2/08

-The return of Foreclosure Phil-
Former McCainster Phil Gramm is back, just in time to distract the nation from McCain's disastrous veepee choice. Unfortunately Gramm -- who was McCain's economic adviser -- has come back to remind everyone of the candidate's disastrous economic adviser pick.

In fact, he reminded everyone of why he was a disastrous economic adviser pick, by referring back to his "nation of whiners" comment at a Financial Services Roundtable in Minnesota.

"If you’re sitting here today," he told the assembled wealthy, "you’re not economically illiterate and you’re not a whiner, so I’m not worried about who you’re going to vote for."

Sometimes I wonder if Phil Gramm isn't actually brain damaged... (Think Progress)

-New talking point alert-
People who don't hate America, listen up. You need to update your propaganda. People who think McCain's disastrous veepee choice is a disastrous veepee choice are sexist. The first sign came when Laura Bush and GOP fundraiser Carly Fiorina both warned that Democrats were going to resort to sexism. Republicans made sure that both of these finger waggers were in possession of lady parts.

Now Sen Lindsey Graham who, despite all evidence to the contrary, is not possessed of a vagina, is jumping in. Speaking with Politico, Graham said that critics of Sarah Palin were saying that "she could not handle her multiple roles as mother, soon-to-be grandmother, McCain's running mate and, potentially, vice president."

“Would a man be asked this question? Probably not,” Lindsey the non-lady asked.

Here's the thing -- no one's actually asked that question. There's just so freakin' many substantial arguments to make that insubstantial spin is completely unnecessary. Ms. Lindsey's just making up arguments that are easy to dispute, then attributing them to opponents. This is known as a straw man. It's also known as "the tactic the stupid and/or hopeless resort to."

Remember when McCain accused Obama of "playing the race card?" Republicans are playing the gender card -- shamelessly.

Still, if you're a McCain backer, just remember, all those deep, deep doubts you have about Sarah Palin means you hate women. Seriously, Lindsey and Laura and Carly think you suck. (Politico)

-Headline of the day-
"TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2008 Check back soon for updates"

That's the entire content of the GOP's convention schedule page. It's running like a well-oiled machine...

And while we're looking at the convention website, am I the only one who thinks the elephant logo in the upper left looks like mighty Cthulhu? (GOPConvention2008.com, via reddit)
