Poorhouse for gazillionaires
-Headline of the day-
"AIG execs massage away the stress after 85-bln-dlr loan: lawmakers."
Damned French and their weird English abbreviations -- that's an "$85 billion loan."
Turns out that going broke is a pretty sweet deal when you're stupid-rich. According to the report, "AIG executives escaped to a pricey California beach resort to unwind just days after the insurance giant was rescued by an unprecedented 85-billion-dollar US government loan, lawmakers said Tuesday." The total price of the getaway is $440,000, which breaks down as "close to 200,000 dollars for rooms -- which cost between 425 and 1,200 dollars per night -- over 150,000 for meals and 23,000 in spa charges." Also included were "7,000 dollars in green fees at the golf course and 10,000 on bar tabs" and "23,000 dollars at the hotel spa and another 1,400 dollars at the salon."
All just one week after having their asses pulled out of the fire by the US taxpayer. We own 79.9% of these guys, so we should get a slice of that too. I've got my bags all packed and I'm ready for drinks by the pool.
Although, to tell the truth, I'm starting to think they're not going to swing by and pick me up. (Agence France-Presse)
-Bonus HotD-
"Palin watched debate on 'one of eight televisions tuned to Fox News'."
Of course she did. Asked for comment, Palin said, "That John... Gee whiz, but he was great, huh? You betcha! Them debates is what we're gonna on this thing win the way all!" (Think Progress)
-[Fucking obvious] headline of the day-
"McCain goes negative as Obama lead grows."
Good thing someone pointed that out to me or I would've never picked up on that. According to a study by the University of Wisconsin Advertising Project (GO BIG RED!), "[N]early 100 percent of McCain’s ads were 'negative,' compared to only 34 percent of Obama’s TV spots" between Sept. 28 and Oct. 4.
How's that workin' for John? Well, here's yet another headline; "Gallup: Obama Up By 11." This leaves Republican researchers wondering if it's possible to go more than 100% negative.
Because you have to remember the GOP motto; "If what you're doing isn't working, it's because you're not doing enough of it." (The Hill)
