The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 11/14/08

Bush shown shrugging
World leaders don't want to be this guy

-Headline of the day-
"Vladimir Putin 'wanted to hang Georgian President Saakashvili by the balls'."

The underlying story here is that the Russian Prime Minister doesn't like the Georgian President very much. When Russia invaded Georgia, the above really was the plan.

Yikes!

But it was French President Nicolas Sarkozy who talked Putin down, saving both Saakashvili's testicles and his life. Sarkozy killed the idea with a quick and decisive logical argument.

PUTIN: I am going to hang Saakashvili by the balls!

SARKOZY: Hang him?

PUTIN: Why not? The Americans hanged Saddam Hussein.

SARKOZY: Yes, but do you want to end up like Bush?

According to the report, "Mr Putin was briefly lost for words." Finally, he replied, "Ah -- you have scored a point there." Check and mate.

So I guess the last eight years weren't a total loss, Bush will be an example of stupidity that diplomats can point to for generations to come. (London Times)

-Only if Sarah Palin doesn't field dress him first-
Ron Paul grandson-in-law Jesse Benton says that maybe, just possibly, the renegade Republican could make another run for the White House.

"He hasn’t closed out the idea of another run," he said. "We have some time to decide whether he runs again, or whether he gets behind somebody else. But we don’t have tons of time. By the middle of 2009, the decision needs to be made."

Paul is 73 years old, so you go ahead and do that 2012 math. A lot of people thought McCain was too old for the job and he's younger than RP.

Get ready for the Ron Paul Revolution 2.0. I think he's still got the blimp and everything. Still, can we get the new guy sworn in before we start speculating about his replacement?

You never know, Obama just might good at this stuff. (Reason, via Wonkette)

-Who wants to captain this sinking ship?-
House Republicans have a battle on their hands -- who will be the next House minority leader? The big surprise here isn't that there's a battle, but that anyone wants the job enough to fight for it.

But it turns out that California Rep. Dan Lungren has put himself in the running to throw Rep. John Boehner out. "It is my belief that it is neither in the interest of our party or the advancement of our conservative principles to simply affirm the status quo by acclamation in light of what happened on November 4th," Lundgren said.

He's got a good point. If you need any proof that the GOP leadership has reached levels of suckitude previously unknown and then exceeded them, you just haven't been paying attention. It turns out that constantly pegging the crazy meter didn't pay off as well as Boehner might've hoped it would.

Still, I think Lundgren has a different motive for wanting Boehner out; he's sick of all the boner jokes. (McClatchy)
