The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 11/21/08

Wrecked trawler
Behold, Blackwater's fearsome nautical might

-Headline of the day-
"High-seas piracy a boon for Blackwater mercs."

In a week that saw what may have been the most unlikely collection of words ever in a news story -- "Indian Navy sinks pirate mothership" -- we find that the American private army of Blackwater is planning on making the big bucks protecting ships from modern-day buccaneers.

This headline is a little premature, however, as Blackwater is only preparing to fight pirates. According to the report, Blackwater "says its maritime forces are ready to throw its weight into the battle for the high seas. The group has retrofitted an ex-research vessel to carry over 30 'operators' on missions to protect other ships." So they've pasted guns to something like the Calypso -- sounds a lot less than impressive.

I mean, c.mon... These guys have freakin' zeppelins. No, really. The best they can come up with for fighting all threats piratical is a souped-up trawler? What they ought to do is get a submarine. Man, would that ever be cool.

Come on guys, you've got to spend money to make money. (Raw Story)
