A victory for conservatism?
-Headline of the day [well, other than "OBAMA WINS!!!"]-
"Conservatives Who Slammed Obama For Being A Socialist Now Say He Ran A 'Center-Right' Campaign."
It doesn't have to make any sense, they're Republicans -- coherence is against their religion.
See, the whole thing works this way; conservative pundits aren't about to admit that everything they stand for was chucked out the window last night. So, in order to save something, they claim that the US is basically a conservative country. Which means that Obama -- being the winner -- is basically a conservative candidate. He won because he ran to the right.
Yeah, it's completely bass-ackward from everything they were saying as recently as yesterday, but what the hell? He was a Muslim who went to a Christian church at one point, why can't he be a conservative socialist? Having trouble seeing the logic here? Stop trying to get it to make sense!
You need to foster a Zen-like state where conflicting ideas can exist in the same skull without driving you nuts. It's hard, but way dumber people than you can pull it off. All you have to do is believe it with all your little heart and then wishing makes it possible.
If that doesn't work, you can always just drink enough tequila to make yourself legally blind. That works too. (Think Progress)
-I told you they weren't going away-
Following Barack Obama's election yesterday, some of the top search queries are a little odd. Some are expected, like "Obama cabinet" and "Michelle Obama's dress," while others are freaky.
While it's not in the top 100, I'm getting a lot of traffic from searches like "what happens after McCain" -- thanks to a post titled What Happens if McCain Loses? I wrote last month. When I checked Google Trends, "Define socialism" was #31 and "Obama antichrist" was at #46; goofiness is persistent. But for true post-Halloween terror, consider this; "what's next for Sarah Palin" is the 75th most searched query today.
I'd follow the link and find out, but I'm too afraid. Seriously, I don't want to know. (Google Trends (changes often, so your results may be different), via profy)
-A cloud with a silver lining-
First the bad news; it's looking like Democrats won't have the 60 seats needed for a filibuster-proof Senate. Now, the good news; that means there's no reason for anyone to give a fuck about Joe Lieberman.
The math works out this way; had dems gotten more than 60, they wouldn't need Lieberman to fill out the ranks. Had they gotten exactly 60, Lieberman would've suddenly become essential. Now that it looks like it's short of 60, they don't need Lieberman either -- a majority's a majority. As a result, it's also a lead pipe cinch that Joementum's going to lose his chairmanship of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. There's some talk of Lieberman jumping ship and caucusing with Republicans, but that wouldn't be much better.
Well played Joe, well played... (Newsmax.com)
