The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 9/14/09

-Headline of the day-
"Suddenly, CPAC Rejects WND Craziness."

The yearly wingnut festival, the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) -- or, as I refer to it, the Crazy People's action Conference -- has finally found an issue too crazy for the crazies. That issue is birtherism. That's right, the idea that Barack Obama is really an illegal alien is too goofy for people who've, in the past, floated ideas like a concerted effort to drive Christianity out of the United States, that same-sex marriage will create a generation of criminals, and that George W. Bush was a "pseudo-socialist president."

Specifically CPAC has rejected a request by WorldNetDaily and noted homosexual Joseph Farah to host a panel on the notion that Barack Obama might be Kenyan or Indonesian or that maybe Hawaii isn't really a state.

"It would fill a room," said event director Lisa De Pasquale. "But so would a two-headed monkey. There really are so many more important issues, and it's only a three-day conference." The fact that the Crazy People's Action Conference has become known for being the "Crazy People's Action Conference" would have nothing to do with it. It's just that they don't want to be associated with noted two-headed homosexual monkey Joseph Farah -- who addressed CPAC last year.

It's official, birthers -- even the crazy people think you're crazy. And embarrassing. (Right Wing Watch)

This is not a photo from this weekend's teabagger rally in Washington:

Crowd photo from DC

What is it? Who knows? The poster at the right wing site FreeRepublic.com says it's from the "1997 Promise Keepers March," but then goes on to say it's from the Million Man March -- which totally different in, like, a gazillion ways. If I had to guess, I'd go with the Million Man March, because wingnuts aren't all that smart or imaginative. In order for one to google up a photo of a million people in Washington, the event would actually have to have "million" in its name.

Still, there were billions and billions of people there. To prove it, the same poster warning of the fake photo making the rounds posts this "real" photo:

Crowd photo from DC

The problem; flags in Washington weren't at half-mast Saturday. I've got no idea where that photo is from -- Reagan's funeral, maybe -- but it's most definitely not from the 9/12 teabagger rally.

So how big was the rally really? The rally really was about 60,000 or 70,000 -- although, if you ask Shelly Malkin, it was roughly equal to the population of China. Not that it matters much; last November 17,535,458 went to the polls and voted for Barack Obama.

And no right wing hissy fit -- no matter how large -- is going to change that. Sorry wingnuts, you still lose. (FreeRepublic.com, via Wonkette)

"School cancels controversial field trip to Bush speech."

Remember that Texas school that wouldn't show Obama's address to students, but planned a field trip to go see Bush speak?

Yeah, that's not going to happen. Arlington Superintendent Jerry McCullough says, "In retrospect, I can see how the district's decisions concerning these two events could be seen as favoring one event over another." Crazy how that works, isn't it? Favoring one event over another actually looks like favoring one event over another.

So, basically, the school district has decided that no president should ever speak to students -- that's just a freakin' great idea... (Think Progress)
