Today's roundup is book-tastic!
-Headline of the day-
"Senior GOP Aides And Operatives Totally Blindsided By Steele’s Book On Party’s Principles, Sources Say."
Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele's new book continues to cause him and his party problems today, mostly because no one but Mike knew it even existed.
"Nobody knew this book was coming," says one Capitol Hill GOPer. "Everyone came to work one day and said, 'Hey, Steele has written a book.'" This causes certain problems, because the book lays out a Alcoholics Anonymous-style "Twelve-Step Program" for defeating the "Obama agenda" and spells out the principles that Republicans will be running on in the 2010 elections -- which is pretty much right now.
"It wasn’t until this week’s book tour that most of us heard about it," says a senior Republican op. "I don’t know of anyone who knew it was coming in the House or the Senate."
So now Republicans are going to have to buy the book to find out what they stand for. Pretty shrewd salesmanship, Mike. (Plum Line)
-My book can beat up your book-
Also out with a book explaining what all the rest of the Republicans are going to run on and stand for is former Speaker Newt Gingrich. Unlike Michael Steele's Beating Obama the Alcoholic's Way, Newt's To Save America argues that the country is so screwed up we have to just scrap everything and start over.
"...Gingrich argues that a decade of dishonesty from our leaders of both parties has created the greatest threat to our nation’s survival since the Civil War," says a press release from the publisher. "He asserts that the federal government is broken, and we must be willing to 'replace, not reform' our leaders and our policies." For the record, Newt Gingrich is not one of "our leaders," so I guess we don't have to replace him in whatever the hell it is he actually does. Funny how that works out.
So, which book will win out? Will it be Steele's Sobering Up Republicans or Gingrich's We Have to Destroy America to Save it? Only time will tell. One thing's for sure, the GOP doesn't have a lot of time to make up their minds.
Clock's ticking guys. (Politico)

Maybe Mike ought to quit drinking before he starts publishing twelve-step programs for everyone else. (Think Progress)
