Stories to Watch: 12/20/10

My vast media empire is expanding. I'm putting together a Tumblr blog that'll post all the headlines I tweet. And I'll include some other stuff occasionally as well. It's all very complicated -- by which I mean stupid-simple. I already bookmark all the headlines I tweet on Diigo, so that's half the battle right there. Tumblr has an option to automatically post items in RSS feeds, Diigo lists generate feeds, so tie the two together and Bob's your uncle -- you've got a crazy robot blog. I'd post the link tonight, but there's literally nothing on the blog at the moment, so that'll come tomorrow. Now here's the news...

Governor of Mississippi, former RNC chairman, and current maybe presidential hopeful Haley Barbour says he's not a racist. The problem is, he's spent the day treading water after praising a racist group. So he's not a racist, he just likes racists. Also says things weren't "that bad" when the civil rights movement was fighting segregation. Put Haley Barbour's hopes in the same "No Way in Hell" folder you've filed Sarah Palin's presidential dreams in.

Even the GOP concedes that the START treaty will get the votes. On this issue as on many others, Scott Brown seems to be on a crusade to disenchant the 'baggers who elected him.

War on Chrsitmas news: NPR's Nina Totenberg says, "I was at -- forgive the expression -- a Christmas party." This is absolutely the worst thing ever -- it's no contest.

Oops, scratch that. Net Neutrality is the worst thing ever. Unless you ask Al Franken.

President Obama's approvals are rising, disapprovals falling.

Today's stupid idea from a bigoted ass.

Speaking of bigoted asses; NY GOP Rep. Peter King embraces the word bigot. Because if lying about Muslims, hating Muslims, and demagoguing about Muslims is wrong, he doesn't want to be right. Steve Benen points out why King's being an idiot.

Finally, John Kyl says that the repeal of DADT "could disrupt unit cohesion... and cost lives." To give you an idea of how much he believes his own bullshit, Kyl also says he won't try to repeal it. Why does John Kyl hate the troops and want them to die?
