A suspect in a terrorist attack on Norway that killed at least 92 people is in custody. All day yesterday, the rightwing blogosphere went nuts with their assumption that it was Islamic terrorism. It wasn't. Arrested was Anders Behring Breivik, a man with tie to "right-wing extremist groups in eastern Norway." He's also a fan of rightwing hatemonger Pam Geller. As soon as the news came out, most of the rightwing blogosphere dropped the story entirely and those that have kept up with it are either trying to spin some sort of conspiracy out of it or going back in time to play the "Sarah Palin is a victim!" card they feel they earned from the Gabrielle Giffords shooting.
John Boehner follows Eric Cantor's lead and walks out on debt ceiling negotiations. So, two law professors write an op-ed for the New York Times endorsing the "constitutional option"; "President Obama should announce that he will raise the debt ceiling unilaterally if he cannot reach a deal with Congress. Constitutionally, he would be on solid ground. Politically, he can't lose. The public wants a deal." Meanwhile, House GOP may go back to beat a dead horse.
A taste of what'll come if we don't raise the debt limit; congress fails to pass funding for the FAA and the ranks of the unemployed grow by 4,000 overnight.
Polling shows what such polls always show -- neither party is super-popular in all this, but Republicans are the least popular.
RIP Amy Winehouse.
Privatization fail: the US wastes $34 billion on contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Finally; it's official, come Sept. 20, DADT will be history.
