Majority says Romney’s out of touch

Talking Points Memo:

A majority of likely voters believe that Mitt Romney doesn’t care about their needs and problems, according to a new poll released Tuesday from Quinnipiac University. Respondents believe that Obama cares about their needs and problems by a 22-point margin, 60 percent to 38 percent. In contrast, a majority, 51 percent to 46 percent, believe Romney doesn’t care.

The results mirror recent polls showing voters believe Romney’s policies will benefit the rich rather than the middle class — a significant problem for the Republican candidate.

I’m surprised that it’s as close as it is, with just a bare majority believing Romney doesn’t get their problems. This is a guy who lists among his own personal problems the lack of an elevator for his cars; he’s not sitting up late at night wondering how to make ends meet or if his kids will be able to afford college. And, as the son of privilege, he never has. Any knowledge of middle and lower class problems would be second-hand.

And I find it doubtful that the guy who protested in favor of the draft for the Vietnam War, knowing full well he’d never have to fight himself, would even give a crap about any problems you or I might face.
