Stories to Watch: 7/15/13

Matt Drudge is itching for a race riot following the Zimmerman verdict -- and lacking anything approaching one -- is happy to just make them up.

And after the Zimmerman verdict, it's almost like everyone's ignoring the fact that Supreme Court Justice John Roberts declared racism over when he killed the Voting Rights Act. It's weird, but it's almost like he was wrong and it was an absurd argument or something....

After dedicating a song to the memory of Trayvon Martin, 73-year-old soul singer Lester Chambers is attacked on stage by a deranged woman.

If immigration reform fails, "Boehner and fellow House Republicans will get absolutely crucified by the Hispanic media," reports Greg Sargent. Meanwhile, data from Gallup shows the GOP losing the immigration debate with everyone other than non-Hispanic whites -- and they lead there by a whopping one percentage point, which is way within the margin of error.

Somewhat related and demonstrative: GOP Rep. Gary Miller tries to erase his racist anti-immigrant history -- because half of his constiuents are now Latino. Meanwhile, Louie Gohmert -- who you have to assume comes from a district that's about 100% white, Republican, and insane -- argues that Latinos will really love it if Republicans kill immigration reform, because... Well, he kind of lost me on that one. See if you can figure it out.

Nate Silver says that, at this moment in time, control of the Senate in 2014 looks like a tossup. If Republicans continue to kick every demographic other than white Christian males in the teeth on a daily basis, I think we can count on that to change. It's almost a year and a half away, so I wouldn't get too bent out of shape now.

John McCain has the stupidest idea ever to avoid the "nuclear option" filibuster reform -- let Republicans choose the nominees to the President's cabinet. Seriously.
