Stories to Watch: 10/8/13

The T-Bill market is already beginning to get shaky over a possible failure to raise the debt limit and the ensuing default that would make such bonds worthless. Remember when Republicans worried about "economic uncertainty"? Like everything else, Republicans are very, very much uncertainty -- right up until they're not.

Closing national parks during the government shutdown means OBAMA'S JUST LIKE HITLER! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! RUN!

Just a reminder: Rep. Randy Neugebauer still hasn't apologized for yelling a park ranger about the effects of a shutdown he voted for. He's not just a prick, he's a shameless prick.

Somewhat related: death benefits to the families of fallen military personnel have been suspended during the government shutdown. Everyone knew this would happen. However, that doesn't stop the pro-shutdown side from blaming Obama for it. Propagandizing the families of the fallen to score cheap political points against the administration -- more shameless pricks.

What do you do when you've been arrested at a rally for immigration reform? If you're Rep. John Lewis -- or awesome -- you have your office brag that you're celebrating your 45th arrest in a lifetime of civil disobedience in the cause of civil rights and social justice.

The newly resurgent progressive left scores another victory as news comes out that Janet Yellin will fill the vacancy at the Federal Reserve.

Finally, Brian Beutler doesn't see John Boehner taking the country over the cliff and into default. He's probably just letting Tea Party blowhards blow hard. Here's hoping he's right -- which I'm pretty sure he is.
