Stories to Watch: 2/25/14

CNN's Anderson Cooper interviewed Al Melvin, an Arizona state senator, GOP gubernatorial candidate, and supporter of the pro-discrimination bill currently waiting Gov. Brewer's signature or veto. In the process, Cooper leaves arguments in favor of the bill a smoking ruin. Truly a thing of beauty.

Speaking of conservative bigots with lousy homophobic arguments: Rush Limbaugh whines that Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is being "bullied" by liberals into vetoing the aforementioned hate bill. Normally, I could care less what Limbaugh thinks, but complaining that people are trying to keep you from gay-bashing really is the worst victim card ever.

How bizarrely anti-immigrant are House Republicans? Well, there are 232 House GOPers in all. And the number who support their party's immigration reform effort -- not a bipartisan effort, not a Democratic effort, not the White House effort, but their effort? 19.

Climate change is catching us with our pants very much down.

President Obama plays hardball with Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai, ordering the Pentagon "to begin formally preparing for a complete withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan by the end of this year."

Retiring Democrat John Dingell apparently plans to be replaced by his wife. Debbie Dingell will run for his seat.

Finally, Dem Senator Pat Leahy wants to freeze aid to Uganda in retribution for that nation's passage of a sweeping anti-gay law. Can we please do the same to Arizona, if we need to?
