Stories to Watch: 3/27/14

Why we need to spend more time looking at the whole economy, rather than just how well Wall Street's doing.


A rightwing blog reports that the FBI is distancing themselves from the hate group-tracking Southern Poverty Law Center. This is wishful thinking on their part. It says a lot about the right that A.) they consider SPLC an enemy and B.) that they work so hard at trying convince themselves that the bigoted hate groups the right supports and defends aren't really hate groups at all.


Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker strikes a blow against the spreading scourge of democracy by signing a bill into law ending weekend voting. When a Republican who thinks this is a great idea tells you they love freedom, they're lying. The enemies of democracy are the enemies of freedom. Scott Walker and the Wisconsin Republican Party are enemies of freedom.


Somewhat related: despite their spartan rhetoric, Republicans just love to throw taxpayer money around. What they say and what they do are polar opposites.


Paul Krugman and Nate Silver are feuding over the accuracy of Silver's relaunched FiveThirtyEight.com. Frankly, I think Krugman has the better point -- that Silver's confusing some issues by bringing his own self-proclaimed experts to fields and subjects already covered by actual -- and more knowledgeable --  experts.


An Oregon woman beat her four-year-old son to death because she thought he would grow up to be gay. Homophobia is far from harmless.


Finally, Obamacare signups top 6 million.
